ChatGPT Adds Virtual Clothing Try-On Powered by ChatGPT Images

ChatGPT can now generate virtual clothing try-ons from product listings and a reference selfie, with controls for saving or deleting the photo.

ChatGPT Adds Virtual Clothing Try-On Powered by ChatGPT Images

ChatGPT now offers virtual try-on for eligible clothes and accessories. When a supported product appears in ChatGPT shopping results, a new “Try on” button can use a selfie and ChatGPT Images to generate an approximation of how the item might look on the user.

The feature is available in ChatGPT on mobile and the web. It is intended as a visualization tool, not a sizing system: OpenAI explicitly warns that generated images may not represent the product or the person’s appearance exactly and do not guarantee fit.

How to create a virtual try-on

Open a supported clothing or accessory result and select “Try on.” Take a new selfie or upload an existing one, then wait for ChatGPT Images to generate the result. Users can also upload a picture of an item in a normal conversation and ask ChatGPT to show how it could look on them.

ChatGPT saves the reference photo so it can be reused for later try-ons. To replace or remove it, open Settings, choose Personalization and then Reference photos. Select the saved image and use the change or delete control.

Shopping results and ads are separate

OpenAI says ChatGPT chooses product results independently and that those results are not ads or influenced by commercial partnerships. Advertising, where present, is displayed separately. Some eligible products and merchants may also support Instant Checkout, but availability depends on the listing and region.

The shopping update also lets users save products to Favorites or organize them into folders in the ChatGPT Library. That turns a one-off search into a shortlist that can be revisited without repeating the same prompt.

Use the image as a preview, not proof

Generative images can alter fabric drape, color, proportions and fine product details. Before buying, compare the merchant’s original images, measurements, materials and return policy. Anyone uncomfortable with retaining a body reference photo should delete it after the session and review the personalization settings before creating another try-on.
