Cloudflare launches cf, an agentic CLI covering over 3,000 API operations

Cloudflare has released cf, a new command-line interface built for AI agents that it says covers the entire Cloudflare API surface of more than 3,000 operations. The open beta is available now globally and installs with npm i -g cf, according to the company’s announcement.

The tool is positioned as a successor in spirit to Wrangler, Cloudflare’s long-standing developer CLI, which offers commands for around 280 operations. Cloudflare says agents accounted for 48% of Wrangler usage last week, up from a quarter in March 2026 and single-digit percentages the year before.

What cf changes for agents

Cloudflare says cf was built from the ground up for agents rather than retrofitted. It includes bespoke search and steering so an agent can locate the command it needs, and JSON is the default interface — pretty printed for humans and condensed for agents to save context.

The company describes a single tool that can set up a Worker, deploy it, monitor it, protect it with Cloudflare Access, buy a domain and front it with Cloudflare WAF. It also introduces cloudflare.config.ts as a configuration format for the whole of Cloudflare, starting with Workers, and makes Vite the default local development server with a plugin suite for developers and framework authors.

Generated from the API schema

Cloudflare says the expansion was possible because of Forge, its unified API generation pipeline, which generates CLI commands directly from the OpenAPI schema that already powers its API documentation and SDK generation. Annotating that schema with a little more information lets Forge produce a CLI, the company says.

The announcement also acknowledges the inconsistency that accumulated in Wrangler, where each product team contributed its own approach. Cloudflare cites differing terminology across roughly 280 command paths — d1 info, hyperdrive get and workflows describe — as well as custom experiences written across thousands of lines of code that were rarely used.

Cloudflare frames the launch around agentic development changing how software is built and deployed. “cf has been built from the ground up with agents in mind, and includes novel tools for agentic command discovery that we think will become standard in more CLIs in the near future,” wrote Matt “TK” Taylor and Samuel Macleod.

If you want to try it, the beta is open and free to install via npm. Cloudflare says it can be run from anywhere.
