Cloudflare Open Sources Forge, a Pipeline That Generates SDKs, CLIs and Docs

Cloudflare has open sourced Forge, a pluggable generation pipeline that produces SDKs, CLIs, docs and libraries, and that anyone can deploy and run for free. The company announced it on September 28, 2026, describing the project as early in its life but already generating the output required for the cf CLI. Over the next few months, according to Cloudflare, Forge will power Cloudflare’s API documentation, SDKs and more.

The reason is scale. Cloudflare says its API has over 3,500 operations, and the hundreds of services behind those APIs are written in Rust, Go, TypeScript and Python. Building a CLI for the entire Cloudflare API, plus SDKs and API docs, required a pipeline flexible enough to work across languages and across the way each engineering team operates.

Previews on every pull request

Forge runs in CI, on each team’s API repos, in the same way Cloudflare runs its AI code reviewer and test pipelines. It lints every change, then generates preview builds of the CLI, docs and SDKs with only your changes highlighted, which you can install to test. Cloudflare compares the premise to Workers Previews: a full preview build for every change, applied to SDK generation at scale, including when the API surface is spread across hundreds of services and repositories.

The company says it tried several hosted products that attempt to solve this, and relied on some in production, but none solved the problem for it — and some shut down entirely. In its account, one team would merge a change that inadvertently broke the generation pipeline, another team would find out at release time, and time went into coordinating changes between teams and vendors through tools Cloudflare could not control.

Transformers that go beyond language SDKs

Forge transformers can generate more than the usual language targets. Cloudflare says the pipeline can take an OpenAPI spec and generate Cap’n Web, its RPC system that lets TypeScript call a remote API as if it were a local method. That, in Cloudflare’s description, opens the door to generating bindings from Workers to other APIs.

Forge is available now as an open source project, free to deploy and run. Cloudflare has not published a general availability date for the documentation and SDK output it says Forge will power over the coming months.
