Cloudflare Registrar: New Domain Search and Agent API for 420+ Extensions
Cloudflare rebuilt Registrar's domain search and expanded its API with a sandbox, extensions data and transfers, covering 420+ extensions for people and agents.
Cloudflare has rebuilt its domain search and expanded the Registrar API, letting people and AI agents find, buy and transfer domains across the 420+ extensions it supports. The company announced the changes on September 30, 2026, in a post by Ankit Shah and Carlos Armada.
If you have ever gone looking for a domain and ended up buried in upsells for security, websites and email, the new search is aimed at you. Cloudflare says the page now shows the exact term you searched across every extension it supports, with results appearing as you type and loading as you scroll.
Registered domains show up too, so you get a fuller picture of a name. If you only want names you can actually buy, filters remove the rest. Sorting and filtering are there to narrow the list down.
What changed in the Registrar API
Cloudflare launched the Registrar API in beta in April and has been adding to it since. The company says the API now includes:
- A sandbox for testing registrar workflows without buying a domain or triggering a real transaction.
- An extensions endpoint that returns relevant information for each of the 420+ supported extensions, covering the different requirements registries impose.
- Transfers, so domains can be moved into Cloudflare from another registrar programmatically.
The API is available through Cloudflare MCP, which means agents can use it without a separate integration. Earlier in the same week, Cloudflare also announced cf CLI, bringing the same capabilities to the terminal.
In practice, that turns registrar tasks into plain requests. Cloudflare’s own examples include asking whether example.com is available, telling an agent to buy it, or asking it to transfer a domain in from another registrar with an authorization code and auto-renew enabled.
Why agents are part of a registrar
Cloudflare’s argument is that an AI agent is good at ignoring checkout distractions and staying focused on the destination. The company says it designed Registrar to work naturally with agents through the API, MCP and the new CLI, so you can ask your preferred agent to find a domain, buy it, or transfer one you already own.
The post frames the browser and the agent as two routes to the same place rather than a replacement. For many people, Cloudflare notes, the browser is still where the search begins — and that experience, it says, was long overdue for an overhaul.
Cloudflare Registrar has offered domains at cost with transparent pricing and no upsells for a decade. The new search and the expanded API are available now; the API can be reached through Cloudflare MCP, and cf CLI brings the same commands to your terminal.
