Apple HomeView: 7-inch smart home hub pre-orders open, ships November 13

Apple introduced Apple HomeView on October 13, a smart home hub with a 7-inch Liquid Retina display that the company says brings entertainment, connection, and smart home management together in one place. Pre-orders opened the same day, with availability beginning November 13, according to Apple.

The device runs on Apple Intelligence with Siri AI, and Apple says it recognizes users by their faces so they can reach personal content in Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Reminders, and Find My. HomeView can recognize up to six people, and each one gets a personalized Home Screen with their own apps and widgets.

Two versions, four colors

The tabletop HomeView uses an aluminum design with the display connected to a domed speaker base by a stainless steel hinge, so you can tilt it for viewing on counters, nightstands, or side tables. It comes in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray, each with a color-matched USB-C cable.

A separate wall-mounted model, in space gray and silver, offers the same 7-inch display and audio. Apple says it attaches to a wall using three purpose-built mounts from Schneider Home, with self-installation or professional installation options.

The display adapts to its surroundings: True Tone reacts to changing light, brightness adjusts from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, and the interface shows simpler information from across the room and richer detail as you step closer.

Siri AI, sound, and the smart home

Apple describes Siri AI as an entirely new version of Siri that is more capable and conversational, with personal context understanding and onscreen awareness. Paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can act across apps and surface information from Messages, Calendar, and Apple Music playlists. Conversations started on HomeView continue in the Siri app, syncing through iCloud to iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple Vision Pro.

Audio comes from two custom full-range drivers in the display, a down-firing woofer, and two force-cancelling passive radiators in the base, with computational audio adjusting loudness and bass. The wall version uses two custom drivers tuned for on-wall placement. HomeView also supports Handoff from iPhone and multiroom audio with HomePod, HomePod mini, and AirPlay-compatible speakers.

As a smart home dashboard, HomeView controls accessories by touch or voice, and the Home Camera face can livestream up to nine video feeds at once. With a supported iCloud+ subscription, it works with compatible cameras for end-to-end encrypted recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, packages, and vehicles, and it can detect the sound of smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and alert you on iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Apple also announced Apple Home Collection, a lineup of smart home cameras, thermostats, and a lock designed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. HomeView works with those and other Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories.

HomeView includes the A18 chip with Secure Exclaves, which Apple says are protected, compartmentalized runtimes that process camera and microphone data separately from the rest of the system.

“Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Pre-orders are open now, and Apple says HomeView will be available beginning November 13.
