GitHub Copilot weekly releases: Claude Haiku 5.5, local sandboxing and account splitting

GitHub's Copilot update adds Claude Haiku 5.5 for paid tiers, generally available local sandboxing, separate license and repo accounts, and VS Code 1.141 agent views.

GitHub Copilot weekly releases: Claude Haiku 5.5, local sandboxing and account splitting

GitHub’s Copilot update for the week of October 5 brings a new model option, generally available sandboxing, and a way to split your Copilot license from your repositories. The changes were published in the company’s changelog on October 9, 2026.

Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users, according to GitHub.

Sandboxing limits what agents can touch

Agents can now be restricted from reaching files, networks, and credentials through local sandboxing. GitHub says the feature is generally available in Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and VS Code sessions that use Agent Host, and that it is included with Copilot at no extra cost.

If you run agents in more than one of those environments, the same control applies across all three.

Separate accounts for license and repos

The Copilot app now lets you sign in with separate GitHub accounts for your Copilot license and your repositories. GitHub gives the example of using an enterprise-provided Copilot license while accessing repositories through another account. The app is available for download from GitHub.

Local Ollama models in the CLI

Copilot CLI can now discover models from a running local Ollama instance without leaving your existing workflow. The /model command lists those local models alongside your configured models and the cloud models provided by GitHub Copilot.

VS Code 1.141: side-by-side agents and worktree cleanup

In the VS Code 1.141 release, the Agents window lets you view agent sessions side by side and arrange them in a grid, so you can compare results or follow multiple tasks at once.

Chat also gains an “Open worktree cleanup” option. It shows how much disk space inactive session worktrees are using and lets you choose which ones to remove. GitHub points to the full VS Code release notes for the rest of the changes.

The updates are rolling out through the usual channels: the Copilot app download, Copilot CLI, and the VS Code 1.141 release.
