GitHub Copilot in Slack and Teams Adds Multi-Repo Support
GitHub Copilot in Slack and Microsoft Teams now works across multiple repositories in one conversation, plus @GitHub mentions anywhere and better Slack context.
GitHub Copilot in Slack and Microsoft Teams can now work across multiple repositories inside a single conversation, GitHub announced in a changelog entry dated October 15. The update removes the need to jump between separate conversations when you are tracking pull requests, investigating issues or catching up on project activity.
According to GitHub, you can ask Copilot things like “@GitHub Show me all my open pull requests across repositories and highlight which ones need my attention,” or “@GitHub What pull requests were merged this week across my repositories?” The company also lists investigating an issue that spans frontend and backend repositories, and summarizing recent activity across repositories, as supported prompts.
All of it happens where the conversation already is — in Slack or Microsoft Teams — rather than in a separate GitHub surface.
Smaller changes to how Copilot behaves in chat
GitHub says it shipped several other improvements alongside multi-repo support:
- More natural conversations: you can mention @GitHub anywhere in a message, not only at the start.
- Smoother repository switching: moving between repositories during a conversation is easier.
- Better Slack conversation context: Copilot can use shared Slack messages and threads as context, so you can reference a discussion without copying and pasting the details.
- Improved reliability: GitHub says it made changes to reduce errors, improve task startup and help Copilot recover more smoothly from interruptions in both Slack and Microsoft Teams.
The changelog does not list pricing, plan requirements or a rollout schedule for the features, and GitHub has not published a separate setup guide in the entry. If you already use Copilot in Slack or Microsoft Teams, the changes apply to the conversations you are having there; GitHub directs users to its Community forum for discussion.
The multi-repo update follows other recent Copilot work from GitHub, including weekly releases covering Claude Haiku 5.5, local sandboxing and account splitting and REST and GraphQL API support for Copilot Code Review.
